Camino Day 6 – Los Arcos

Early doors today and out into the outskirts of Estella, up a hill and then into the countryside. Passed a wine fountain – tasted alright but didn’t think a full cup of red would have helped with walking – and then into the village of Azqueta and its fantastic cafe for empanada and coffee.

A little climb to Villamayor on the slopes of Monjardin and its amazing views. Back down to the valley, more fields and paths and then an unexpected food truck – often the best kind, I always say – for more coffee and a sit down.

Back on the road again, all the way thru to the municipal albergue in Los Arcos (that’s Spanish for THE Arcos) which is nice and, as per usual – not to diminish this – staffed by really friendly and dedicated hospitalleros / wardens. Another great village, though unfortunately the grand-looking church is closed on Wednesdays so no dice.

Preparing ourselves logistically and mentally now for the next two days of around 28km each, with a stop in the city of Logroño between.

Stats for today:

  • 21.5km
  • 457m ascent
  • 433m descent
  • 2 coffees bought along the way
Scallops on bollards?! Simmer down there, Estella.
Wine to the left, water to the right.
Fab cafe.
Approaching Villamayor thru vineyards
Wouldn’t have half minded a dip here.
Relief map of all Caminos. There are a LOT.
Spare a thought for medieval pilgrims, who rarely had access to satellite maps of each day’s journey.
From Estella to the slopes of Monjardin
Villamayor, fields and flowers
Highly welcome food truck amidst more fields
And Los Arcos
