Camino Day 19 – Mansilla de las Mulas

The Meseta continues for a sixth day!

Another early start and quiet walking in the dark. And a fairly quiet day overall, with nearly the entire day on gravel paths next to quiet roads. A little rain to start, overall much warmer than recent days, and some grey skies drawing in towards walk’s end.

Two towns passed by, El Burgo Ranero, and then Reliegos, which provided a lovely coffee and sandwich. Eventually, into the small and interesting town of Mansilla, which has a neato medieval city wall and modern road bridge on medieval foundations.

Great little private albergue tonight. Some of these places – like today’s and also yesterday’s – are run with real care and love, and the spirit of that shows thru and really makes a difference. For some reason – maybe the 50+km walked over two days – everyone was dog-tired by the time they reached this town, and having a warm and welcoming roof to rest under helps enormously with recovery for the following day’s Camino.

Stats for today:

  • 25.7km
  • 150m ascent
  • 212m descent
  • 2 street cats given head scratches
Spain, it turns out, is really big.
Cool city wall
Cool bridge
