Fourth day on the marvellous Meseta!
A very short day (for Camino) today – because it’s either “just” 18km, or 35 – after Carrión there’s a very large gap of 17km without any villages or water, and little shade. Better attempted when the day, and ourselves, are fresh.
Beautiful start to the day walking alongside a river, mostly shaded and with views across more of these endless fields. Coffee stop in the fantastically-named Villalcázar de Sirga, then back on the Camino tho this time alongside a road and shadeless in the early afternoon sun which started baking the Meseta, as well as all of us. Still amazing views, especially to the north where snow-capped mountains are drawing a little closer.
And then another great little town to spend the night in, this time an old religious school converted into a municipal albergue and run by nuns. It feels a bit like sleeping in a boarding school, and luxuriously we have single beds rather than the typical bunks.
Stats for today:
- 19.1km
- 106m ascent
- 65m descent
- 1 time I managed a fairly decent conversation with my rudimentary Spanish
