Camino Day 31 – Arzúa

How can it be that only two days remain on this journey? Happily, this antepenultimate day on Camino took us up green hills and down glorious dales, all overflowing with golden sunshine.

An early start helped to avoid the hordes of pilgrims that have now joined the way, and gave time for more breaks than I usually take. More time to savour the views, and more opportunities for coffee. The only town of any size was Melide, around halfway thru the day. Overall the Camino climbed up to small hilltops and then descended to rio / river valleys six times across the day.

And back to fields and forests and marvelling at the good luck to see blue skies again. A long enough day of walking ended at the final albergue, a great place set across several floors and with a lovely outdoor seating area – tho I think most of us already had more than enough sun in the six or seven hours we were outdoors today!

Tomorrow, onwards and upwards towards O Pedrouzo. The milestones ticked just below 40km remaining to the end of the Camino, meaning two easy (ish) days await us. Here’s to hearty dinner and solid sleep.

Stats for today:

  • 26.8km
  • 591m ascent
  • 749m ascent
  • 3 cafes visited
The rich soil of Galicia
Trail-cat of the day.
Decision point between principal and complementario paths
A lot of downhill today, luckily not all at once.
