Camino Day 25 – Villafranca del Bierzo

Suburbs, country paths and vineyards with fresh mountains looming ahead!

A real lolly scramble of a day today. The first 10km or so were fairly nondescript city streets and outskirts, helped along by a great coffee break. Before too long the roads passed away for farm tracks thru rather lovely vineyards, with views back towards the now freshly snow-covered mountains of yesterday.

As the day progressed, new hills growing larger and behind them the mountains of tomorrow… after this relatively flat day today, we’ll be climbing back up towards the clouds by the end of the following day.

Another beautiful town to end the day, another great local albergue, and a simple sandwich for dinner. Up and away in the morning as we climb the largest single day on the entire Camino Francés, I believe.

Stats for today:

  • 24.9km
  • 324m ascent
  • 354m descent
  • 8 restful hours of sleep ahead… right?!
Less than 200km remain, if my maths is correct
894km? Appreciate the prank, local jokester.
Just a map.
Leaving Ponferrada via the Museo de la Energia
Endless outskirts yield to lush farmland.
So many Siamese cats this week?
This was a truly lovely landscape for walking.
Finally, Villafranca del Bierzo.
